Cosmetic Procedures

Adult Dentistry Cosmetic Procedures

If you are self-conscious about your smile due to a “gummy” or “toothy” appearance, we can help. With our team approach to patient care, we will work with your dentist to develop a plan combining periodontal and cosmetic procedures to give you the beautiful smile you’ve always dreamed of.

Gummy smiles result from an excess of gum tissue over the teeth, making them look too small or uneven, even though teeth may be of normal length. A periodontal plastic surgery procedure called crown lengthening can be used to reduce gum tissue and reshape excess gum and bone on one or several teeth. This reveals more of your natural teeth and evens out your gum line to improve your smile.

With toothy smiles, the opposite occurs: the teeth appear too prominent due to a lack of gum tissue over the roots. For these patients, gum grafting can offer a solution. With gum grafting, soft tissue grafts can be used to cover the over-exposed teeth. In addition to giving your smile a more attractive appearance, soft tissue grafts can help combat gum recession, a problem that can lead to decay and even tooth loss.
