Accelerated Orthodontics
At Epic Dental, we are always striving to provide our patients with the absolute best in care along with cutting-edge techniques and technologies.
One of the main concerns we hear from many of our orthodontic patients is the length of time treatment takes. To address this issue, we have carefully researched and introduced two new options for accelerated orthodontics, Propel Orthodontics and AcceleDent, which help dramatically reduce treatment time—often by half!
As the term implies, accelerated orthodontics are devices used in conjunction with braces to speed up the orthodontic process. With braces or Invisalign, teeth normally move only in response to pressure from the appliances (braces or aligners) that are guiding to the teeth. With accelerated orthodontics, additional pressure and bone stimulation is introduced, which facilitates faster teeth movement.
What is Propel Orthodontics?
Propel is a device used in conjunction with traditional braces or Invisalign that stimulates bone remodeling, a main focus of orthodontic treatment. The use of the device can help teeth move into the desired position in a more predictable and much faster way than with braces or Invisalign alone. The Propel technique uses tiny microperforations to the gums to accelerate tooth movement and bone regrowth. It is performed in our office by our orthodontists, only takes minutes, and requires no recovery time, so you can get back to your daily activities right away. If a patient experiences any discomfort, acetaminophen (Tylenol) can be taken as needed. However, avoid all other analgesics as they slow tooth movement.
What is AcceleDent?
AcceleDent is an easy-to-use, hands-free, FDA-approved dental device that can be used for only 20 minutes a day to accelerate your orthodontic treatment. By placing the AcceleDent fitted mouthpiece over your already existing orthodontic work, the device uses targeted micropulses to gently accelerate the movement of your teeth. This safe acceleration of the bone remodeling process, which is one of the ultimate goals of orthodontics, compliments your treatment and has been proven to move teeth faster.
