Your First Visit
The goal of your first appointment is to determine if and when treatment is needed. Our orthodontic specialists will perform a comprehensive clinical examination, using photographs and an X-ray to assist. We will then explain any orthodontic problems we find, provide a diagnosis, and recommend a course of action. This first consultation typically takes one to two hours.
Should we determine treatment is needed, we will digitally scan your teeth to create models (no messy impressions needed!) and take a skeletal X-ray to determine your tooth and jaw relationships. This information will be used to customize a treatment plan specifically for you.
Our experienced orthodontic team wants to be sure that you are given all the information and details you need to make a fully informed decision. Recommended appliances, such as Invisalign, braces, retainers, or expanders, will be explained in detail. You will also receive an estimate of the length of your treatment and frequency of appointments. You will be given an estimate of the treatment costs, and our staff will assist you with your insurance benefits. Financing options and payment plans will be discussed.
Once we answer all your questions and you agree to proceed, we will schedule an appointment to start you on the way to a beautiful healthy smile and bite.
Helpful information to bring to your first visit:
- Recent panoramic X-rays (if applicable). You can either bring it with you or ask your doctor to send a digital file before your appointment date.
- List of any medical conditions that could affect treatment.
- Filled out patient registration forms. This will save you time at your appointment.
- Insurance information: If you have dental insurance, please bring an insurance card and any necessary completed forms, including referral paperwork (if applicable). This will also save you time and allow us to help you process any claims.
