Your First Visit
Welcome and thank you for choosing our practice! We’re looking forward to being your child’s home for pediatric dentistry.
Your initial visit is an opportunity for us all to get to know each other. We believe that establishing a relationship based on comfort and trust from the very beginning will allow your child to form a positive view of dentistry. If they look forward to coming to the dentist, it will help them enjoy a lifetime of healthy smiles! Therefore, your child’s introduction to dentistry in our office will be done with a fun and positive approach.
We need your help to make your child’s first dental visit a successful experience. You can prepare your child before the appointment by letting him/her know what to expect (we will count his/her teeth and show him/her how to brush). Also, please avoid any mention of anything that might cause fear, such as needle, drill, shot, etc. We recognize that your child’s visit might be anxiety-provoking for you as the parent, and we want you to rest assured that there’s nothing for you to worry about. Please do your best to feel at ease and relaxed, as your child is likely to respond to on any discomfort on your part.
Parents will be asked to accompany children under 4 into the treatment area. If your child is older, we may request that your child come into the treatment area alone. Research and experience have shown that parental presence can sometimes affect the communication process between the dental team and the child. This makes it more difficult for us to establish a direct relationship with your child. If you are present, we ask that you accompany your child as a “silent partner” and remain in the background as much as possible. Working together, we can succeed in providing your child a great first experience. Our entire team of dentist, dental hygienists, assistants, and scheduling coordinators will do their utmost to be accommodating and helpful in order to provide you both with a pleasant visit.
Your aim as a parent, and ours as a pediatric dental team, is the same—to keep your child’s teeth and mouth in good health and to make the process of doing so positive for all. We all look forward to meeting you and your child, and welcome any comments or suggestions you may have.
